Removable Braces Removable Braces

Removable braces can be used to correct the way the teeth bite together. This treatment is usually done at approximately age 8 to 9 and treatment takes only about 3 to 4 months.

Removable braces can also be used to widen the upper teeth to improve how the teeth fit together.

They may also be used at the beginning of a course of fixed braces to improve an overbite – i.e. the vertical overlap of the tooth and bottom teeth. Click for example.

Functional Braces Functional Braces

Functional braces are used to correct prominent upper teeth by encouraging forward growth of the lower jaw. This improves the position of the teeth and also improves the facial profile. (Click for example).

This treatment is best done about age 11 to 13 in girls and age 12 to 14 in boys

This treatment is often done prior to completion with fixed braces. Treatment can take between 18 and 24 months.

Metal Braces Metal Braces

Fixed Appliance return to NHS Return to NHS Fixed metal braces are placed when all the adult teeth have developed in the mouth (approx. age 12-14).

Fixed braces can be used to correct crowding, close spaces etc (Click for example).

Treatment usually takes about 18-24 months.
